Terms of Service
Effective date: October 23, 2026Last updated: October 23, 2026
These Terms are the agreement between you and us for your use of ran. We've written them to be read, not skimmed past. Where a part applies only to consumers, or only to business users, the heading says so.
01
About us and these Terms
1.1 Who we are. ran is provided by Gabriel Ezerzer Zamora, a sole trader trading as "ran" ("we", "us", "our"). Our postal address is 21 Finney Court, Durham, County Durham, DH1 1RX. You can reach us at gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com.
1.2 What these Terms cover. These Terms apply to the ran web app, ran's connection for AI apps (the "MCP server"), and our website at ran-stack.com — together, "ran".
1.3 Other documents.
(a) Our Privacy Policy at https://ran-stack.com/privacy explains how we handle personal data. It is not part of this contract, but our commitments in clauses 4.3, 5.5 and 13 are.
(b) If an organisation has signed our Data Processing Agreement (clause 12.3), that agreement applies to the personal data it covers. Organisations can obtain it by emailing us at gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com.
(c) If you take a paid plan, the plan details shown when you buy it (clause 10) form part of this contract.
If the plan details or the Data Processing Agreement conflict with these Terms, these Terms win. The exception is that the Data Processing Agreement wins on how personal data is processed for an organisation that has signed it.
1.4 Accepting these Terms. You accept these Terms by ticking "I agree to the Terms" on the first screen you see after you first sign in. If you were using ran before these Terms were introduced, or when we ask you to accept an updated version (clause 16.2), we will ask you to tick the box once on your next visit. We record which version you accepted and when. If you don't agree, please don't use ran.
1.5 How the contract is made. You enter your email address and we email you a sign-in link. When you first sign in, the first screen links to these Terms and asks you to tick the box in clause 1.4. The contract is formed when you tick it. Before you tick, you can read and save these Terms. We keep a copy of each version. The current one is always at https://ran-stack.com/terms; ask us if you need an earlier version.
1.6 Language. These Terms are in English only.
1.7 Words we use.
(a) "AI app" means a third-party application you connect to ran through the MCP server — for example Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor.
(b) "Connected service" means a third-party tool you link to ran as a source — for example Google Drive, Gmail, Notion, Slack or Outlook, or a tool available through the integration platform.
(c) "Early access" means the current period in which ran is offered free and still under active development (clause 4.4).
(d) "Integration platform" means Composio, the provider through which some connected services are linked (clause 6.5), or any provider that replaces it and is named in our Privacy Policy.
(e) "Paid plan" means any plan for which you pay us a fee.
(f) "Uploads" means the area of ran that holds files you upload and documents your AI apps add.
(g) "Workspace name" means the name you give your account when you set it up.
(h) "Your content" is defined in clause 5.1.
(i) "Including" and similar words mean "including without limitation".
02
Who can use ran
2.1 Age. You must be at least 18 years old to use ran.
2.2 One person, one account. A ran account belongs to one person. It is your personal memory, built from your own accounts. You may not share your account, let anyone else sign in to it, or create accounts for other people.
2.3 Using ran for an organisation. If you use ran on behalf of a company or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms for it, and "you" includes that organisation. If you are not authorised, you are personally bound by these Terms. Your ran account stays personal to you: ran has no team accounts, and your organisation does not get administrative access to your account through ran.
2.4 Consumers and business users. Some parts of these Terms apply differently depending on how you use ran:
(a) you are a "consumer" if you are an individual using ran wholly or mainly for purposes outside your trade, business, craft or profession;
(b) you are a "business user" in every other case. That includes using ran wholly or mainly for your job, as a freelancer or sole trader, or on behalf of an organisation.
Which you are depends on how you actually use ran, not on any label. If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these Terms do not take away (clause 20).
2.5 Restrictions. You may not use ran if the laws that apply to you bar you from doing so. You also may not use it if you are subject to UK, EU, UN or US sanctions, or are located in a country subject to comprehensive sanctions.
03
Your account and keeping it secure
3.1 Signing in. ran has no passwords. We sign you in with a one-time link sent to your email address. Anyone who can open your email can sign in to your ran account. Keep your email account secure — we recommend two-factor authentication on it — and don't forward sign-in links.
3.2 Your details. Give us an email address you control, and keep it current. We use it to sign you in and to send you notices about ran (clause 24.2).
3.3 Activity on your account. You are responsible for what happens through your account, including through any AI app you connect to it (clause 7). This doesn't apply where it happens because we failed to take reasonable care.
3.4 Tell us about problems. If you think someone else has accessed your account or your email, tell us straight away at gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com. You can cut off every connected AI app in ran at any time (clause 7.5).
04
What ran is
4.1 What ran does. ran connects to the connected services you choose and keeps a searchable copy of their text. It lets you, and the AI apps you connect, find and cite your own work. It can show where your sources disagree. You can also upload files, and, if you allow it, AI apps can add documents to your Uploads.
4.2 How it works, in brief. ran reads your connected services through their official interfaces, using permissions you grant. It keeps:
- text chunks;
- numeric representations of that text ("embeddings");
- a map of how your documents connect;
- a link back to each original.
It updates them when the source changes. Our Privacy Policy describes this in more detail.
4.3 What ran never does. These are commitments, not just descriptions:
(a) ran never sends messages, or creates, changes or deletes your documents, messages, files or records, in your connected services. It only reads them. To keep its copy current, ran may ask a connected service to notify it of changes. Those notification settings carry no content. They lapse or are removed after you disconnect the connected service or delete your account;
(b) ran never uses your content to train AI models — ours or anyone else's — and never lets its providers do so (clause 8.6);
(c) ran never shows your content to other ran users. Your account is yours alone.
If we ever want to offer a feature that would change any of these, we will change these Terms first under clause 16, and the feature will be something you choose to turn on.
4.4 Early access. ran is in early access. That means:
(a) features may change, be added or be withdrawn as we learn what works (clause 15);
(b) some features are marked "beta" — for example, some connected services linked through the integration platform. Beta features may be less reliable and may be withdrawn at short notice;
(c) there may be interruptions, and we do not promise any particular availability or response time.
This does not reduce your rights as a consumer (clause 20).
4.5 Usage allowance. Some of ran's AI processing runs on our own AI provider accounts ("managed inference"). Each account has a monthly allowance of managed inference: a set amount included each calendar month, which starts again on the 1st of the month (UTC). Searching your content, and serving it to your AI apps, keeps working when the allowance is used up. If you use up your allowance, some processing may pause or run in a reduced form until the allowance resets — for example, adding AI context to newly indexed documents. Adding your own key avoids this (clause 9).
You can see your usage in the app. We may also apply reasonable technical limits — on file sizes, the number of sources, and request rates — to keep ran reliable for everyone. The current limits are shown in the app and in our documentation.
4.6 ran is not a backup. ran keeps a working copy of text so it can search and cite it. It does not keep your original files, and it is not designed to preserve your data. Keep your originals in the connected services they live in. For files you upload, ran keeps only the extracted text and discards the file, so keep your own copy.
05
Your content
5.1 What "your content" means. "Your content" means everything that comes into ran from you or for you:
(a) content from your connected services;
(b) files you upload, and the text taken from them;
(c) documents your AI apps add, including the text of web pages ran fetches at their request (clause 7.4);
(d) everything ran derives from the above to provide ran — text chunks, embeddings, context notes, the knowledge map, and citations; and
(e) the questions sent to ran through the app or an AI app.
5.2 You own your content. We claim no ownership of your content. As between you and us, anything ran derives from your content is also yours.
5.3 Permission you give us. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process, transmit and display your content, and to create the derived data described in clause 5.1(d). We may do this only to:
(a) provide ran to you, including sending relevant passages to the AI apps you authorise;
(b) keep ran secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems; and
(c) comply with the law.
This licence extends to our service providers named in the Privacy Policy, acting for us for these purposes. It ends when your content is deleted from ran (clauses 6.7 and 18), subject to backups expiring as described in clause 18.4.
5.4 What you promise about your content. You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed for ran to process your content as these Terms describe. This includes content you connect from an employer's or client's tools (clause 6.2), files you upload, and pages your AI apps ask ran to fetch. You also confirm that this processing will not break the law or anyone else's rights.
5.5 What we don't do with your content. We don't sell it. We don't use it for advertising. We don't use it to train AI models.
People at ran don't read it except:
- with your explicit permission, for example when you ask for help with a specific problem;
- when needed for security or to comply with the law; or
- in aggregated and anonymised form.
5.6 Service data. We collect technical and usage records about how ran is used — for example server logs, records that a source was connected or a query was served, and usage counts. We use them to operate, secure and maintain ran. Service data is not your content.
5.7 Content we may refuse or remove. We don't review your content. We may refuse to process, or remove, specific content if we reasonably believe it breaks the law or clause 11, or puts ran or others at risk. Where it's lawful and practical, we'll tell you what we did and why.
06
Connected services
6.1 What a connected service is. See clause 1.7(b).
6.2 Your authority to connect. Connect only accounts you are entitled to use, and only in a way their owner allows. If a connected service is provided by your employer, a client or another organisation, check that its policies let you connect it to a service like ran. Some organisations forbid copying their data into outside services. You are responsible for that check.
6.3 Read-only. ran asks connected services only for the permissions it needs to read the content you choose — for example, read-only access to Google Drive and Gmail. ran never sends, creates, changes or deletes your content in a connected service (clause 4.3(a)).
6.4 Their terms still apply. Your use of each connected service remains governed by your agreement with its provider, and that provider, not us, is responsible for it. We aren't responsible if a provider:
- changes or withdraws its interface;
- changes what ran may access; or
- suspends your account with them.
If that stops part of ran working, we'll tell you.
6.5 Connected services linked through the integration platform. Some connected services are linked through our integration platform, Composio. For those, you approve access on Composio's own consent screen, and Composio holds the access permission for us. These connected services may be marked "beta".
6.6 Google user data. If you connect a Google service, ran's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Section 3 of our Privacy Policy explains what that means.
6.7 Disconnecting. You can disconnect a source at any time in the app (Connections → choose the connected service → Disconnect). Disconnecting stops ran's access. It also permanently deletes that source's copy from ran's live systems straight away: its documents, text chunks, embeddings, map entries, and the access token ran holds for it.
- Copies in backups expire as described in clause 18.4.
- We keep a short record that the source was disconnected until you delete your account.
- Your originals are not touched.
- For connected services linked through the integration platform (clause 6.5), the platform provider's copy of your permission is removed when you disconnect. Until we confirm this has completed, you can also revoke it in the connected service's own settings.
You can always revoke ran's access in the connected service's own settings (for Google, at myaccount.google.com/permissions).
07
AI apps you connect over MCP
7.1 What this is. You can connect AI apps to your ran memory through our MCP server. An AI app asks for access; you sign in to ran and approve it on our consent page.
7.2 What you approve. On the consent page you choose:
(a) which sources the app may see. Every source is ticked to start with. The app can search and read passages only from the sources left ticked. If you leave every source ticked, sources you connect later are included automatically; untick at least one if you don't want that. If you disconnect a source, it drops out of every app's access straight away.
(b) whether the app may add documents. This is offered only if the app asks for it. It appears as its own tick, ticked unless you untick it. Untick it and the connection stays read-only. An app allowed to add documents can also read back the documents AI apps have added to your Uploads, even if you didn't tick that source, unless you untick “Uploads added by connected apps” on the consent page.
Your choices are stored on our side and checked on every request. The app cannot widen them.
7.3 You are responsible for the AI apps you authorise. When you connect an AI app, you instruct ran to send it the passages it requests from the sources you approved. After that:
(a) the app's handling of those passages, your conversations and its answers is governed by your agreement with that app's provider, not by us. Check their terms and privacy policy. Some AI apps keep conversation data, or use it in ways we don't control;
(b) any charges for using the app — such as your Claude or ChatGPT subscription — are yours;
(c) the app acts on its own judgment within the access you gave it. You are responsible for what it does with that access, including any documents it adds.
We aren't responsible for a third-party AI app's behaviour, availability or answers.
7.4 Adding documents and fetching web pages. If you allow an AI app to add documents, it can:
(a) save text to your Uploads; and
(b) ask ran to fetch a public web page and save its text.
When ran fetches a page, our servers request that address on your behalf. They send nothing of yours with the request, fetch only public http and https pages of permitted types, and refuse private or internal network addresses. Documents added this way land in your Uploads, marked as added by a connected app. They are your content (clause 5) and count towards your limits.
You are responsible for making sure you are allowed to keep a copy of any page your AI apps fetch. We may refuse or limit fetches to protect ran or others — for example, addresses that look abusive, or content that is too large or of an unsupported type. Nothing an app does through ran can send, create, change or delete your content in your connected services.
7.5 Revoking an AI app. You can revoke any connected AI app at any time (the Add ran to Claude page in ran, which covers every connected AI app). Revocation takes effect immediately. Documents the app already added stay in your Uploads until you delete them.
7.6 Prompt injection. AI apps can be manipulated by instructions hidden in the content they read — in an email, a document or a web page. That is true of content ran returns from your sources too. ran never acts in your connected services, which limits the harm. Even so, be careful which AI apps you connect and what permissions you give them, and review what an app proposes before you act on it.
08
AI in ran, and what ran's output is (and isn't)
8.1 Where AI is used. ran uses AI models in three places:
(a) when a document is indexed, an AI model adds short context notes and builds the knowledge map;
(b) embedding and ranking models decide which passages best match a question; and
(c) when you connect an AI app, that app — not ran — writes the answer you read, using the passages ran returns.
Some content in ran, such as context notes and parts of the knowledge map, is therefore AI-generated.
8.2 What ran returns. In response to a question, ran returns:
- passages from your own content, with citations back to the original;
- an indication of how well your sources answer the question; and
- any passages that conflict.
ran does not decide which source is "right".
8.3 No guarantee of accuracy. AI is imperfect, and so is search. Passages ran returns may be incomplete, out of date, out of context, or not the most relevant. AI-generated content — in ran, or in the AI app you use — may be false, incomplete, misleading or not reflective of recent events or information, even when it looks confident and cites a source. Don't rely on any factual statement without checking it: open the citation and read the original. Your sources can also be wrong or out of date. ran reflects them and does not correct them.
8.4 Not professional advice. Nothing ran returns is legal, financial, medical, tax or other professional advice.
8.5 Decisions about people. Don't use ran's output as the only basis for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on a person — for example in hiring, credit, housing, education or access to services — without meaningful human review.
8.6 Our AI providers. Our managed AI processing, and the embedding and ranking described in clause 9.3, run on providers named in our Privacy Policy. Each has agreed not to use your content to train or improve its models, and we have switched off any setting that would let it do so.
09
Bring your own key
9.1 Your key. You can add your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key in ran, under "Your key". ran then uses your key for the AI processing described in clause 8.1(a), instead of managed inference. We store your key encrypted, use it only on our servers to run your jobs, and never show it back in full.
9.2 Your provider's terms and charges. When ran uses your key:
(a) the processing runs under your agreement with that provider, including its usage policies and data-retention settings;
(b) the provider charges you, not us, for that usage. You are responsible for those charges, for any spending limits on your provider account, and for keeping the key valid; and
(c) you are responsible for keeping the key confidential outside ran, and for revoking it with your provider if you think it has been compromised.
9.3 What still runs on our accounts. Embeddings and search ranking always run on our own provider accounts, named in the Privacy Policy, whether or not you add a key.
9.4 If your key fails. If your key is rejected, unauthorised or rate-limited:
(a) by default, the job stops and ran shows you the error. Nothing is switched to another provider without your say-so;
(b) if you tick "If your key fails, ran finishes the job on ours", ran retries that job once on managed inference. The retry runs on our Anthropic account, under our provider arrangements rather than your provider agreement, and counts towards your managed allowance (clause 4.5). You can change this setting at any time.
9.5 Removing your key. If you remove your key, ran goes back to managed inference from the next job. Removing it from ran does not revoke it with your provider; do that with them if you want to.
9.6 Our responsibility. We aren't responsible for your provider's service, charges or outages, or for its decisions about your provider account. We are responsible for keeping your key secure while we hold it, and for using it only as this clause describes.
10
Fees and paid plans
10.1 Free during early access. ran is currently free during early access, and no payment details are needed. Your managed allowance and other limits (clause 4.5) still apply.
10.2 Paid plans in future. We expect to introduce paid plans. When we do:
(a) we will tell you at least 30 days before any change to what you get for free;
(b) we will never move you onto a paid plan, or charge you, unless you actively choose to buy one; and
(c) if we reduce what the free service includes, you can choose a paid plan, keep using the free service as it then is, or close your account.
10.3 What the rest of this clause covers. Clauses 10.4 to 10.10 apply only if you buy a paid plan.
10.4 Prices and what's included. The price, billing period, currency and what's included are shown before you buy, and confirmed by email when you do. Prices include VAT where it applies.
10.5 Payment. You pay in advance for each billing period through our payment provider, named when you subscribe, whose terms also apply to the payment. You authorise us to charge your payment method at the start of each period until you cancel.
10.6 Renewal and cancelling. Your paid plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel. Before any renewal or price change, we will send you the reminders the law requires. You can cancel online in the app, in no more steps than it took to sign up. Cancelling stops future renewals, and you keep your paid plan until the end of the period you've paid for.
10.7 Consumers: your 14-day right to cancel.
(a) If you are a consumer, you can cancel a paid plan within 14 days of buying it, for any reason. Tell us in the app, or by email to gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com. You may use the model cancellation form we send with your order confirmation, but you don't have to.
(b) If you asked us to start your paid plan straight away, and you acknowledged that you will lose your right to cancel once the plan has been fully provided, we may deduct an amount for the service provided until you told us you were cancelling, in proportion to the full price.
(c) We will refund you within 14 days of being told, to the payment method you used.
(d) Where the law gives you a further cooling-off period — after a free trial ends, or when a longer plan renews — you also have that right, on the same basis.
10.8 Price changes. We may change the price of a paid plan for future billing periods. We will tell you at least 30 days before the change, and you can cancel before it applies. On a fixed term, such as an annual plan, the price won't change until that term ends.
10.9 Refunds. Apart from clause 10.7, and where these Terms or the law say otherwise, payments are not refundable for partly used periods. If we end your paid plan for convenience (clause 17.4), or make a change that materially reduces what you've paid for (clause 15.3), we will refund the unused part of any prepaid period.
10.10 Late or failed payment. If a payment fails, we'll tell you and try again. If it is still unpaid 14 days after we tell you, we may move you to the free service, or suspend paid features until it is paid.
11
Acceptable use
11.1 Use ran lawfully, and only to work with your own content as these Terms describe.
11.2 You must not, and must not let any AI app or other person, use ran to:
(a) break any law or regulation, or anyone's rights — including privacy, data protection, confidentiality and intellectual property rights;
(b) connect, upload or fetch content you have no right to process this way (clauses 5.4, 6.2 and 7.4);
(c) store or process child sexual abuse material, content promoting terrorism, or any other illegal content;
(d) harass, defraud or harm anyone, or collect personal data about people without a lawful basis;
(e) access anyone else's account or data, or get around ran's access controls, scopes, limits or security measures;
(f) probe, scan or test the vulnerability of ran, or of any system ran connects to, except through responsible disclosure to us (clause 13.4);
(g) use the web-page fetch to reach private or internal addresses, make ran act as a proxy, overload any site, or fetch content in breach of the target site's terms or the law;
(h) introduce malware, or code designed to disrupt, damage or gain unauthorised access;
(i) overload or disrupt ran or its infrastructure, or use it at a volume that materially exceeds the limits in clause 4.5 or degrades ran for others;
(j) create accounts by automated means, or create several accounts to get around limits;
(k) copy, modify or create derivative works of ran itself, or reverse engineer or decompile it, except to the extent the law allows despite this restriction;
(l) resell, sublicense or provide ran to others as a service, or use it to build a competing product;
(m) use ran's output in breach of clause 8.5; or
(n) break the usage policies of the AI providers whose models ran uses, or of your connected services. In particular, don't use ran to generate or process content that Anthropic's Usage Policy prohibits — for example content that sexualises children, content that helps create weapons capable of mass casualties, or content that supports malicious cyber activity. The full policy is at anthropic.com/legal/aup.
11.3 If you become aware that ran is being misused, please tell us at gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com.
12
Privacy and data protection
12.1 Our Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights.
12.2 Our role. We are the controller of personal data we process to run ran, including your account details and personal data about other people in your content, except where clause 12.3 applies. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle it.
12.3 Organisations that sign our DPA. If an organisation that is the controller of personal data in your content has signed our Data Processing Agreement, we process that data as its processor under that agreement.
12.4 Your responsibility. You must be entitled to connect the content you connect (clause 6.2).
12.5 Service providers. We use the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy and on our Trust page to run ran. We will update that list before any new provider receives your content.
13
Confidentiality and security
13.1 Your content is confidential. We treat your content as confidential. We use and disclose it only as these Terms allow, or where the law requires. If the law requires us to disclose your content, we will tell you first where the law allows, so you can object.
13.2 Business users: mutual confidentiality. If you are a business user, you will keep confidential any non-public information we share with you about ran — for example early features or security details — and use it only to evaluate and use ran. This does not cover information that:
- is or becomes public through no fault of yours;
- you already had; or
- you develop independently.
13.3 Security. We protect ran and your content with appropriate technical and organisational measures, as described in our Privacy Policy and on our Trust page. These include:
- encryption in transit;
- encryption at rest for the access tokens and keys we hold; and
- database-level isolation of each account's data.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security breach that affects your personal data, we will tell you as the law requires.
13.4 Reporting a vulnerability. If you find a security problem in ran, please report it to gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com and give us a reasonable chance to fix it before telling anyone else. Good-faith research that follows this clause, avoids other people's data and doesn't disrupt ran is not a breach of clause 11.
14
Our intellectual property, and feedback
14.1 ran belongs to us. We, or our licensors, own ran — its software, design, documentation and branding — and all intellectual property rights in them. Apart from the right to use ran under these Terms, we grant you no rights in it. "ran" and our logos are our trade marks.
14.2 Your right to use ran. While these Terms apply, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use ran for your own purposes, in line with these Terms.
14.3 Open-source software. Parts of ran may include open-source software, which is licensed under its own terms. Nothing in these Terms restricts rights those licences give you.
14.4 Feedback. If you send us ideas, suggestions or feedback about ran, we may use them freely, without paying you or owing you anything. This gives us no rights in your content.
15
Changes to ran
15.1 ran will change. We update ran regularly. We do so to improve it, to add or remove features, to respond to changes from connected services and AI providers, and for legal or security reasons.
15.2 Notice of significant changes. Sometimes a change will significantly reduce what ran does for you — for example, withdrawing support for a connected service you use, other than because its provider has withdrawn or changed access. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you about such a change at least 30 days in advance.
15.3 If a change materially affects a paid plan. If you're on a paid plan and a change has more than a minor negative effect on your access to or use of ran, you may cancel. We will refund the unused part of any prepaid period. If you're a consumer, you may cancel within 30 days of the change taking effect, or of when we told you, whichever is later.
15.4 Beta features. Clause 15.2 does not apply to features marked beta (clause 4.4(b)). We may change or withdraw those at shorter notice, but we will still tell you when we can.
16
Changes to these Terms
16.1 Why we might change them. We may change these Terms to reflect:
- changes to ran, or new features;
- changes in the law or in regulators' guidance;
- security needs; or
- the need to make them clearer.
16.2 Notice. For a change that is not covered by clause 16.3, we will email you, and show a notice in ran, at least 30 days before it takes effect. We will explain what is changing, and ask you to accept the updated version (clause 1.4).
16.3 Changes with immediate effect. A change may take effect sooner if:
- it is required by law or a regulator;
- it is needed to deal with a security risk; or
- it only makes things better for you, or makes the Terms clearer without changing their meaning.
We will still tell you about it.
16.4 Your choice. If you don't agree with a change, you can stop using ran and delete your account before the change takes effect (clause 18), and you won't be bound by it. On a paid plan, you may also cancel and receive a refund of the unused part of any prepaid period.
17
Suspension and termination
17.1 You can leave at any time. You can stop using ran whenever you like, and delete your account at any time in the app (clause 18). Deleting your account ends these Terms.
17.2 When we may suspend. We may suspend all or part of your access to ran — including individual AI-app connections or fetches — if we reasonably believe that:
(a) you, or an AI app acting through your account, have seriously or repeatedly broken these Terms, including clause 11;
(b) your account is being used in a way that risks harm to ran, its users, a connected service or anyone else, or exposes us to a real risk of legal liability;
(c) your account has been compromised; or
(d) the law, a court or a regulator requires it.
We will tell you why, and how to fix the issue if it can be fixed, unless doing so would compromise security or break the law. We will restore access once the reason has gone.
17.3 When we may end these Terms straight away. We may end these Terms and close your account, on notice to you:
- if you have committed a serious breach of these Terms;
- if you have committed a breach that can be fixed and haven't fixed it within 14 days of our asking; or
- if the law requires it.
17.4 Ending ran for convenience. We may end these Terms for any reason by giving you at least 30 days' notice — for example, if we stop offering ran. If you're on a paid plan, we will either let your current paid period run out or refund the unused part.
17.5 What happens when these Terms end. Your right to use ran stops, AI apps lose access, and we delete your account and your content as described in clause 18.
17.6 What survives. Clauses 5.4, 11, 13.1, 13.2, 14.1, 14.4, 18–24 and 26 continue after these Terms end.
18
Deleting your account — immediate and permanent
18.1 How. You can delete your account in the app, under Account. To confirm, you type your workspace name.
18.2 What is deleted. Deleting your account permanently deletes everything ran stores for you:
- the copies of all your connected services;
- your Uploads, including documents your AI apps added;
- all derived data;
- your settings and your stored provider key;
- the access tokens ran holds and your AI-app authorisations;
- the operational records tied to your account, including disconnection records; and
- your sign-in, including your email address.
18.3 It is immediate and cannot be undone. Deletion from ran's live systems happens straight away. We cannot recover a deleted account or its content. You are welcome to sign up again, but you will start as a new user with an empty memory.
18.4 Backups. Copies in our hosting providers' backups are never restored into ran. They are overwritten on the providers' normal cycle.
18.5 What isn't deleted, and why.
(a) Your originals in connected services are never touched. Permissions you granted in those services' own settings stay until you revoke them there. Change-notification settings lapse on the connected service's own cycle (clause 4.3(a)).
(b) For connected services linked through the integration platform (clause 6.5), the platform provider's copy of your permission is removed when you delete your account. Until we confirm this has completed, you can also revoke it in the connected service's own settings.
(c) Passages already sent to an AI app you connected are held by that app's provider, under your agreement with them (clause 7.3).
(d) A waitlist entry, if you made one, is deleted on request (see the Privacy Policy).
(e) We may keep limited records where the law requires, such as payment records for tax purposes.
18.6 If deletion doesn't complete. If ran can't finish removing your sign-in after deleting your data, it will say so. Contact us and we will finish it.
18.7 If we close your account. If we close your account under clause 17, the same deletion applies once any notice period has ended.
19
Things we never limit
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for:
(a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or that of our employees, agents or subcontractors;
(b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
(c) anything else for which the law does not allow us to limit or exclude liability — including, for consumers, your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Every other clause of these Terms is subject to this clause.
20
Our responsibility to you if you are a consumer
20.1 Your legal rights. If you are a consumer, we must provide ran with reasonable care and skill. What we tell you about ran in these Terms and on our website is binding, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides. If we fall short, you may be entitled to have us put it right or, where that isn't possible, to a price reduction. Nothing in these Terms affects these rights. Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk) can tell you more.
20.2 What we're responsible for. We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you accepted these Terms.
20.3 What we're not responsible for.
(a) Loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
(b) Business losses. The consumer track is for personal use, so we are not responsible for lost profits, revenue, business opportunities or goodwill. If you use ran for business, clause 21 applies instead.
(c) Problems caused by events outside our control (clause 22), by a connected service or AI app you chose to use, or by your not following these Terms or reasonable instructions we've given you.
(d) Loss to the extent it results from your relying on ran's output without checking it as clause 8.3 asks, where checking would have avoided it.
20.4 Damage to your devices. If ran damages a device or digital content belonging to you, and this is caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill, we will either repair the damage or compensate you, whether or not you have paid.
21
Our responsibility to you if you are a business user
21.1 ran "as is". If you are a business user, ran is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties, conditions and other terms that would otherwise be implied — by statute, common law or otherwise. That includes any as to satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do, however, promise to provide ran with reasonable care and skill, and that the commitments in clause 4.3 are true.
21.2 Excluded losses. We are not liable, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, for:
(a) loss of profits, revenue, business, contracts, anticipated savings or goodwill;
(b) loss or corruption of data. This does not affect our obligation to use reasonable care to keep your content secure. ran is not a backup (clause 4.6), and your originals stay in your connected services;
(c) any indirect or consequential loss; or
(d) loss caused by a connected service, an AI app or an AI provider you chose to use, by your own key, or by your breach of these Terms.
21.3 Your responsibility for use. You are responsible for deciding whether ran suits your needs, and for checking its output before you rely on it (clause 8.3).
21.4 Overall cap. Apart from the matters in clause 19, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with ran and these Terms is limited to the greater of:
(a) the total fees you paid us for ran in the 12 months immediately before the event giving rise to the most recent claim; and
(b) £100.
21.5 Why these limits. We have set these limits taking into account three things: ran is offered free or at a low price; we cannot control the content you connect or how your AI apps use it; and you can protect yourself by keeping your originals and checking output.
22
Events outside our control
We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control. These include:
- failures of connected services or AI apps you choose;
- failures of the internet or public power networks;
- acts of government;
- natural disasters; and
- epidemics.
Failures of our own service providers are not events outside our control unless they are themselves caused by such an event.
If such an event happens, we will tell you, do what we reasonably can to limit the effect, and resume as soon as we can. If you have prepaid for ran and the event stops us providing it for more than 30 days, you may cancel and get a refund of the unused part.
23
Indemnity — business users only
23.1 If you are a business user, you will indemnify us against all losses, damages, costs (including reasonable legal fees) and liabilities arising from a third-party claim that:
(a) your content, or our processing of it in line with these Terms, infringes that third party's rights or breaks the law;
(b) you connected an account, or had content fetched, that you weren't entitled to (clauses 5.4, 6.2 and 7.4); or
(c) you, or an AI app acting through your account, broke clause 11.
23.2 For any such claim, we will:
- tell you about it promptly;
- let you control its defence and settlement; and
- give you reasonable help, at your cost.
You may not settle a claim in a way that admits fault on our part, or imposes obligations on us, without our consent. You don't have to indemnify us for any part of a claim caused by our own breach of these Terms or our negligence.
23.3 This clause does not apply to consumers.
24
General
24.1 Transferring this agreement.
(a) We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to another organisation — for example, to a company we set up to run ran, or if our business is sold or reorganised. You agree to such a transfer now. We will tell you before it happens, and it won't reduce your rights under these Terms. If you are a consumer and unhappy with the transfer, you may end these Terms and delete your account.
(b) You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms. Your account is personal to you.
(c) We may use subcontractors and service providers. We remain responsible for them under these Terms.
24.2 Notices.
(a) To you. We send notices to the email address on your account, and may also show them in ran. We will treat an email as received unless we learn it was not delivered.
(b) To us. Email gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com. A legal claim may also be served by post at our postal address (clause 1.1).
24.3 Entire agreement — business users. If you are a business user, these Terms, together with the documents in clause 1.3(b) and (c), are the whole agreement between us about ran. They replace any earlier agreement or understanding, and you confirm that you have not relied on any statement not set out in them. Nothing in this clause limits liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
24.4 If a clause doesn't hold up. If a court or authority decides that part of these Terms is invalid or unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Where possible, the affected part applies with the smallest change needed to make it valid.
24.5 No waiver. If we don't insist that you do something, or we delay in doing so, that doesn't mean you don't have to do it, and it doesn't stop us acting later. The same is true the other way round.
24.6 Third parties. Nobody other than you and us has any right to enforce these Terms, whether under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999, the Contract (Third Party Rights) (Scotland) Act 2017, or otherwise.
24.7 Our relationship. Nothing in these Terms makes us partners, employer and employee, or agents of each other.
24.8 Export and sanctions. You will comply with the export-control and sanctions laws that apply to your use of ran.
25
Complaints
If you're unhappy with ran, please email gabrielezerzer.zam@gmail.com. Tell us what happened and what you'd like us to do. We aim to reply within 5 working days, and to resolve complaints within 30 days.
Complaints about how we use your personal data can be made to the same address. We will acknowledge them within 30 days, investigate, and keep you informed. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
26
Governing law and disputes
26.1 Governing law. These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. So is any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or with ran, including non-contractual disputes or claims.
26.2 Consumers. If you are a consumer:
(a) if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in your home courts or in England and Wales, and the mandatory laws of your home part of the UK protect you;
(b) if you live elsewhere, including in the EU, you keep the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live, and may bring proceedings in its courts where the law there allows;
(c) we will bring proceedings against you only in the courts of the place where you live.
26.3 Business users. If you are a business user, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
26.4 Talk to us first. Before starting proceedings, please raise the issue with us under clause 25, so we can try to resolve it. We are not obliged to use, and do not currently use, an alternative dispute resolution provider. This doesn't stop you going to court.
