We didn't set out to start an AI company. We set out to fix a problem inside our own — and found it was everyone's.
AI made work faster. It also made it messier.
Companies already have the knowledge they need. It's just scattered across dozens of systems — decisions in Slack, context in documents, code in GitHub, work in tickets and meetings. Every day people search for answers that already exist.
Then AI arrived, and every new agent needed the same context explained again. Every workflow required constant synchronization to keep things aligned. We looked for a solution, but every product felt like another chatbot sitting beside our tools instead of becoming part of how the company actually worked.
We realized the problem wasn't the AI. It was that every AI worked in isolation.
A shared layer, not another app.
Instead of adding another AI application, we built ourselves a knowledge layer that connected our own accounts, inherited our permissions, remembered context, and let AI work from our real, live knowledge instead of a blank prompt.
It immediately changed how we worked. Our agents stopped operating in isolation. We stopped maintaining duplicate knowledge across systems. Work became collaborative instead of fragmented. As we showed it to other founders and leaders, the reaction was consistent — they were solving the same problem. That's when ran stopped being an internal tool and became the product we're building today.
